The rolls repeat themselves so many times, a police force armed for war, flexing its military might on protesters in American streets. The show of aggression is so infuriating it leads otherwise peaceful people into outrage. I've been there myself.
On Monday, Amy Goodman showed she was one of the people, getting herself arrested outside the Republican National Convention along with nearly 300 others. Watch the video below. The Minneapolis Police have shown themselves, on the other hand, to be the strong arm of national suppression.
Watch the brutal arrest of the DN producers on today's show.
Free Press just put out a petition to stop the arrests of journalists.
Here's a good story from the Uptake with an interview of an attorney about the preemptive raid of a local home where protesters were gathering. Police boarded up the house immediately following. The warrant outlined looking for and seizing such things such of any electronic device, political literature and spray paint. They ceased cash, mattresses and other household items. Those arrested will be released on Wednesday.
See this NY Times story, The Nation and SF Gate coverage for more details about the Democracy Now! host and their two producers who were arrested on Monday. The producers were charged with rioting and Amy was charged with obstruction. I seriously find it hard to believe that DN producers had time to riot while trying to document and interview people in a near riot as splinter group protesters shattered department story glass. Damn. I should have gone to Minnesota.
